WARHOL 2023

June 3 - September 10, 2023

Presented by the Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL, WARHOL was a comprehensive exhibition of the life and works of Andy Warhol. The exhibition featured 94 works from Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop | Works from the Bank of America Collection on loan through the Art in our Communities® Program. Also on view was College of DuPage’s collection of over 150 photographs by Warhol. Other exhibition elements included installations on loan from the Warhol Museum such as Warhol’s Silver Clouds and Cow and Fish wallpapers. In addition to original artwork, WARHOL incorporated unique exhibits and displays, created by the CCMA and COD. This included an extensive historic exhibit providing information about Warhol’s life and career, as well as a Studio 54 experience, Central Park-themed patio, and Children’s Pop Art area.

This exhibit was a testament to Warhol’s successful pursuit of the American Dream. Starting life as the youngest son of a poor immigrant family, Warhol overcame a difficult childhood and attended art school on a scholarship before moving to New York City to build a glamorous life for himself. Warhol’s talent and hard work led him to become a leader of the Pop Art movement and one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Warhol believed that “The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.” Although Warhol died young, he created art and a legacy that lives on to this day.
