Sophia Bartlett
Sophia Bartlett (1826-1917) was born and raised in Conway, Massachusetts. She, along with her husband, Luther, donated land to the Chicago & Pacific Railroad Co. which led to the establishment of Bartlett in 1873. Bartlett was active in the community and philanthropic efforts.

George Struckman
George Struckman (1835-1920) was born in Hessen, Germany and immigrated to Hanover Township in 1850.  A political mover and shaker, Struckman, Bartlett’s first and third village president, also was elected to serve as a state representative, Cook County supervisor and several Hanover Township positions.

John Whitmer
John Whitmer (born 1938) has lived all of his 85 years in the village with the exception of his military service. Whitmer, named a “Bartlett Living Legend,” served in the Bartlett Fire Protection District as a firefighter, deputy chief and a trustee on the district’s board. 

Catherine Melchert
Catherine Melchert moved to Bartlett in 1970. After serving as village trustee for 11 years, she was elected village president in 1993 and retired from the position in 2009. Melchert, the village’s first and the only female village president to date, led many initiatives that shaped modern day Bartlett.
