Liz Gonzales “zelaznogzil”

Location: Gail Borden Public Library District: Main Library
Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Kansas City, I spent the majority of my life searching for my purpose. Throughout my journey, I found solace in seeking out the beauty in the world— marveling at its intricacies and craftsmanship. It was as if the world itself was a testament to love, yet it took me years to realize that love was not just external; it resided within me all along. For so long, I felt adrift, unaware of the power within myself. It wasn't until later that I came to understand that I am love, and that realization transformed my perspective entirely. I came to appreciate the sheer beauty of existence and creation, recognizing the profound joy in simply being. In the realm of artistry, I am known as Zelaznogzil - a name that reflects my journey of self- discovery, with my own name mirrored backward. My turbulent upbringing sparked a deep- seated passion for creation, with art serving as my refuge amidst chaos, allowing me to communicate what words often couldn't. As a Chicana, I've embraced my heritage, infusing my art with narratives of resilience and cultural identity. Each stroke of my brush and every digital line I craft is imbued with the essence of my journey to self-realization. My art seeks to move beyond the superficial, inviting viewers to explore the depths where pain transforms into power and silence resonates as a symphony of colors. Inspired by the belief in "maktub" that it was written for me, I've embraced my calling as an artist, aiming to spread joy and inspire change through my creations. Zelaznogzil stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit - a beacon of hope in a world where freedom reigns supreme. Thank you for embarking on this odyssey with me. Con Mucho Amor.
