In Situ 8

An online exhibition beginning December 7, 2020

Just as the traditional classroom model consists of in-person learning, and has long served to create community and unite, the space of the gallery has also conventionally functioned as a unifying context.  Because the content of this exhibition, in contrast, will be presented virtually, it’s only natural for its organizers to wonder how that format may be inherently distinct from traditional physical spaces, in subtle or significant ways.

We hope our viewers will come away from this exhibition with questions about context, physical space, virtual space, and the relationship between the artist’s experience of making and documenting in the context of quarantine and pandemic.  How do we define space in 2020?  How do physical, conceptual, cultural, historical, political and/or personal contexts play a role in meaning?
