Convex to Tress

Solo exhibit by Madelene Przybysz

Open March 11 - April 1, 2022
Reception March 18 @12pm

This exhibition is composed of two series, ‘Convex’ and ‘Tress (give it time and it will grow)’.

‘Convex’ is a 16-piece structural series created with unprimed canvas forms on 8”x8” wooden frames. Displayed in the order in which they are made, they showcase a progression of varying cone diameters and amounts of canvas material. Initially when creating this series it was mainly material and endurance based. However, because of the shapes and raw state, these forms mimic human qualities, such as breasts, that are relatable to some and uncomfortable to others. Because of this underlying quality, I became interested in the subconscious thought and how abstract forms can trigger such feelings. With this new motive in experimentation, four works from the in-progress series, ‘Tress (give it time and it will grow)’, will be displayed below ‘Convex’. ‘Tress…’ is an abstract study of hair growth in various forms taking place primarily in the timespan of 2020-2021 quarantine. These four works vary in size –currently the largest dimension is 8.5”x11”, and are made from unprimed canvas and thread on wooden frames. This series has even more of an organic tendency as thread pulls the canvas in certain areas to gather itself and create various forms of volume.
